Background
Introduction
HANNspree Inc. has pioneered a radical, design-driven approach to
the manufacturing of televisions. The company creates and markets
a revolutionary range of affordable products that are destined to
forever transform our conception of the TV. From now on, the television
itself should be as much a reflection of individual taste as the
programs we watch on it.
With
the advent of flat screen technology, Terrence Chiao, HANNspree’s
founder and chairman, recognized a momentous opportunity to offer
consumers TVs that are an expression of their personality, style
and interests. HANNspree’s products ally breathtaking concepts
and a 360° approach to design with vibrant colors, unique shapes
and luxurious materials.
In
2004, HANNspree opened its first retail store in Taipei, Taiwan,
and U.S. sales and marketing offices in San Francisco and New Jersey.
Standing on the broad shoulders of HannStar, the pioneering Taiwanese
manufacturer of advanced display technologies that has a 20 percent
stake in the company, HANNspree has received NT$5.3 billion (approx.
US$170 million) in investment capital and is executing an aggressive
2005 business plan for Asia and North America. Two assembly plants,
in Kao-Hsiong and Wu-Gu, Taiwan, and nearly 900 employees around
the world underpin HANNspree’s growth.
Expansion in Asia and America
The creation of this entirely new consumer electronics category
began in 2001 with the first, inspirational product sketch. The
company was established in July 2002, and currently has licensing
agreements in the US and Asia with Walt Disney Company, the National
Basketball Association (NBA), and Major League Baseball (MLB). HANNspree
also has licensing agreements in Asia with The National Football
League (NFL) and Warner Bros.
In 2005, HANNspree is unveiling its visionary product line in America.
The company opened a branded retail gallery in Beverly Hills this
past July and a flagship showroom in San Francisco is set to open
soon. The company is also forging links with some of the United
States’ leading retailers and distributors, and will sell
its products online at www.hannspree.com in October 2005.
Why
the name “HANNspree?”
“HANN” is both a reference to the involvement of HannStar
and a Chinese word that closely equates to “infinity.”
“Spree” has connotations of carefree indulgence. Together,
these words go some way towards expressing the breadth and exuberance
of the new Hannspree brand.
